July: Ruby

Your horoscope can often subscribe to plenty of personal characteristics. For some, it can provide insight as to their inner selves and subconscious needs and wants. For others, it’s a way to rationalize sending that risky text message, or buying a brand new couch.

However, with all the waxing poetic to be had in Capricorn moons and Leo suns, some would prefer a more concrete, tangible method of finding themselves.

Some would say Birthstones are the literal crystallization of the months in a year. Originating from the bible, In Exodus 28, Moses creates a special breastplate for Aaron, the High Priest of the Hebrews. Specifically, the breastplate was to contain twelve precious gemstones, representing the twelve tribes of Israel. These twelve stones were later assigned to the Zodiac, and as a result, became symbolic for all twelve months, respectively.

You could name your zodiac and horoscope, and the features that come with the assignment, but every birthstone possesses unique traits and personality themselves. Have you ever asked yourself if you’re as steadfast as a pearl? Or as richly reflective as a diamond? Let’s find out!

How similar are you to your birthstone?

Ruby is amongst the most popular of all precious stones, rivaled only by its fellow Cardinal Gems; Amethyst, Emerald, Sapphire and Diamond. Though best known for its rich, primal red, Ruby actually occurs in shades ranging from the deepest crimson to a light, bubblegum pink. Despite being an abundant stone, found in deposits all over the world, it is no less desired, nor less revered, and it’s religious significance stretches across all cultures, including mentions in the bible, in Chinese and Indian ornamentation, Hindu astrology, and even ancient Mesopotamian talismans. It has often been deemed the most precious of the twelve stones created by God, associated with passionate emotions, strength and invincibility.

Though primarily sought out for its colour and beauty, ruby is actually one of the sturdiest precious stones, second only to diamond. Because of this, and other physical properties, it appears in a myriad of roles, including areas of watchmaking, medical instruments, and lasers.

Evident in this 2.05 Carat Oval Shaped Ruby and Diamond Halo Engagement Ring in 18K White Gold, however, its status as a precious stone is indisputable. The largest ruby ever discovered is the 125West Ruby. At 18,696 carats, it is worth 418 Million dollars.

If Ruby is your birthstone, you are a hardy, volcanic person. Conversation is fiery and you have no qualms about speaking your mind, or defending your perspective vehemently. It isn’t easy for the faint of heart to make the approach, but those who brave your intimidating energy will find your intensity extends into every aspect of your personality. You are fiercely supportive, unstoppably kind and stubbornly generous. You also love spicy food and burn easily in the sun so be careful.
